A designer of skate parks and boards, and his wife, an art book publisher, approached Sander Architects to design a residence. The program required providing display space for the clients’ vast collection of skateboards and books while accommodating their love of the outdoors. They also wanted to preserve a beautiful tree at the south edge of the site. The result is a house that arcs around the tree, creating a spacious courtyard. Additional outdoor space is provided by a roof deck and front yard with a seating area. The house’s dynamic form is a result of the synergy of both a creative architect and his unique clients. In my role, I oversaw the project logistics from start to finish. This included securing permitting, creating the drawing set in its entirety, producing technical drawings of the metal facade, researching specifications, and generating renderings to explain ideas to the clients.
