AEROSPACE OFFICE
Design: Sander Architects
Role: Project Architect / Manager
Location: Torrance, CA
Completion: 2019
A prominent aerospace firm that designs fasteners and parts for the industry decided to renovate their third floor offices, which serve the top-level executives at the company. The existing space had low, dropped ceilings, offices enclosed by solid walls, and worn carpet and finishes. Sander Architects designed a complete renovation to reflect the industry’s technology and the status of its employees. The central core of the floor is a large conference room and flexible offices wrapped in curving glass. Dropped ceilings were removed throughout the central area to reveal high ceilings. Metal fins, reminiscent of parts of an aircraft, bounce light overhead. Glass walls enclose the offices so that employees, who were once separated from one another, now have a sense of connection. In my role, I researched building code, including egress, fire protection, and ADA access. I assisted with the design by producing renderings and drawings for various iterations of the fins and curving walls. I also worked on the selection of office furniture.
