UNIVERSITY ACADEMIC BUILDING
Design: Frederick Fisher & Partners
Role: Project Architect and Designer
Location: California
Pre-Design: 2022
A creative and selective college for independent study within a large university received seed funding for a new building. The current facility in an old army barrack is showing signs of significant structural deterioration and has limited space for its diverse program. Frederick Fisher & Partners was hired to help the university imagine a new facility that would serve as a hub of activity for the whole campus, given its distinguished faculty, artistic student body, and prime central location. Through a series of workshops with faculty and students, FF&P helped the user group arrive at the desired program sizes and adjacencies, resulting in program “test fit” diagrams. In my role as Project Architect, I participated in the programming workshops, created a series of test fits, studied the site and university zoning restrictions, and led the design of the building and renderings for a fund solicitation package.
